Floating City on the coast of China

Eco Atlantis – it’s a project designed by the architectural firm AT Design Office commissioned by the Chinese company China Communications Construction Company. Something like we saw in the movie “The Fifth Element” (1997). But who knows – maybe in ten years it will not look fantastic?

On the one hand, if the project proves successful and construction of floating cities develops in the future, it in some extent solves the problem of overcrowding. On the other – to live and work in these cities will be much nicer than in the polluted metropolitan areas.

City will consist of hexagonal modules interconnected by underwater tunnels.

Other notable features include a farm and a waste disposal centre, which the designers hope will make the water-based society self-sufficient.

The Floating City, an eco-friendly alternative to building on land, will have an above-ground layer and an underwater layer with an area of four square miles.

Apart from houses, shops and offices Eco Atlantis will have entertainment center in topside. There is a place for the sports complex.

City will be using biogas generators. Natural ventilation and lighting system will provide vertical gardens.

The total area will be more than one thousand hectares.

The project is under consideration by Chinese investors.
